5 THINGS I KNOW NOW I WISH I KNEW THEN
I have learned so much over the last 3 years since starting JB. I also have a lot more to learn. There are a few things that I picked up along the way that I wish I know now that I wish I had known from the beginning. Hopefully some of these points are helpful or can provide some clarity.
Don’t get hung up on perfection. If your first iteration is perfect you waited too long. Sometimes if you wait for the perfect time or until everything is in place you might miss your opportunity. Developing your idea and starting at the same time will help you find issues faster and rejig accordingly. You could spend months planning only to find out that your processes don’t work. Be flexible and learn as you go.
Do as much as you can with the resources you have. Just because you can pay someone or buy something to do a job doesn’t mean you should. Learning how to do things for your business from the start can save you a lot of time and money. For example I built JB’s website. The first version looked nothing like it does today but after lots of trial and error I can edit and change our website anytime I want for free.
Don't quit your day job...just yet. The side hustle is a real thing! If you can start and build your business while working you’ll not until still get paid but it’ll prove that what your working on isn’t just a passing phase. If you’re not able to dedicate evenings and weekends to working on your dreams good luck tackling it full time.
Get used to hearing no. People will say no, friends and family won't understand, and if something can go wrong it probably will. If you want to quit after the first bump in the road it’s time to really evaluate how bad you want it. You need to grow a thick skin, dig in, and figure out a way.
Get ready to work a million hours. Okay maybe I'm exaggerating a little, but just a little. About 90% of the hours put in will be when nobody's watching in the late hours of the night and unglamorous. The remaining 10% though, will be so good and make every minute of hard work worth it.
