WFH Mood
If I’m being honest the transition to working from home isn’t that far off from what I’ve been doing for a long time. Even when the Juice shop was open most of my work was done in the comfort of my sweat pants and top knot.
The big change for me since the pandemic though is my new co-workers, average age 2, average daily snack intake one million. Getting work done with the two of them home all day every day feels nearly impossible sometimes. The one way I’ve managed to stay sane through it all is managing:
My time
My expectations
It is so easy to fall in and out of emails and zoom calls when you're at home. The line between work-life and mom-life fades away real quick. By carving out scheduled-ish (gotta be flexible when it comes to kids) time for work, you won’t feel guilty that your not working and you won’t feel guilty when you’re not engaging with your kids. I also find doing tasks that I can accomplish while my kids are up and in my business helps me feel less anxious about not working my normal hours. Things like meal prep, cleaning, laundry (all those super fun home chores I know). By getting those done you’ll feel good about yourself and they are all kind of mindless tasks so your kids won’t see you with your face glued to your phone or computer.
What do I mean by managing expectations? Well, let’s be real for a second if we thought we could cook, clean, play, and teach our kids every day, why not just throw a song and dance number in there to really make this unobtainable! You have to be kind to yourself and realize some days you might get nothing done and that is OKAY! The second you tell your brain, even verbalize it aloud “today I am doing nothing and that is okay”, you can relax and recharge for the next day.
Working at home is challenging. Working at home with kids is kind of laughable. But, when things get tough, mothers get tougher. We are working on a new schedule, drinking all the things (actually just coffee and wine with a side of water), and getting through this. Us Moms gotta stick together and support each other!
