IS THE JUICE WORTH THE SQUEEZE: I’M NOT CRAZY! YOU’RE CRAZY!
Ever have a major breakthrough that you are so excited about that it keeps you up at night? Then when you share your idea with friends and family they look at you like you’re crazy? Yah, I’ve been there. Welcome to the birth of Juice Because! It was on this day that a lot of people in my inner circle must’ve thought I was going crazy.
It’s not that my friends and family didn’t want to support me, I just don’t think they totally understood what I was trying to do. On top of that I had a great job, why did I need to start my own business? I think that was the hardest part for people to wrap their heads around.
The first lawyer I talked to started our meeting by asking “Is this your Husband's business?” and “But you’re doing it with him?”. A Really great way to start the conversation by discrediting the idea that I could do this on my own as a woman. Then continued to tell me I should just get in touch with a plastic production company and start making my own plastic juice bottles… Obviously that meeting didn’t go as planned.
I’d like to say this was a one off. But when I started out, a lot of people didn’t really get it. Maybe it was because juicing wasn’t a mainstream thing in Calgary yet or I’m afraid to say it, but maybe it was because a young woman wanted to start her own business.
Like our lawyer friend above, I can’t even count how many times I got asked if it was my Husband’s business. Accountants, banks, landlords, suppliers, you name it. From every touch point in my business someone has treated me like I’m crazy for wanting to start my own business.
Guess what; I'M NOT CRAZY, YOU'RE CRAZY!
I really feel like times are changing and the emergence of female entrepreneurs has taken the world by storm since 2014! Women are not only starting their own businesses, they are changing industries. It’s a very exciting time and I am so grateful for the community I have found. Women entrepreneurs are supporting each other and we are seeing growth like never before.
If you’re a woman and you have your own business or are thinking about starting your own business I want to hear from you! I want to hear about your wins AND your struggles. I want to know how I can support you!
