5 ESSENTIALS FOR NEW MOMS
When a new baby arrives everyone will tell you their secrets to help baby sleep, eat, blah blah blah. What about mom! You need things to help you sleep, eat, and blah blah! So below is a list of things that truly helped me stay sane in the craziest moment of my life.
1. Nursing tanks/Breast pads
Whether you decide to breast feed, pump, or bottle feed, your breasts will produce milk! Putting on a real bra will sound like a cruel joke. Nursing tanks to the rescue! This was one item my sister and cousin said to stock up on. I bought three and could’ve used seven. You will honestly live in these for the first little bit. If you do decide to breastfeed or pump they are so convenient and don't leave you feeling naked. I got my faves here. Even if you decide to formula feed you will still have to relieve your breasts for the first little bit and these are convenient and comfortable. As for breast pads… I didn’t know your boobs literally leaked milk all the time. Why does no one tell you these things! Anyways, good breast pads will keep you dry. I tried the fabric ones to help save the environment but they don’t work as well at all. I would leak through them so fast and they smelt bad. If someone has a recommendation of ones that worked better please let me know for round two.
2. Housecoat/lounging clothes
You will live in lounge wear for a while, just embrace it. I bought myself some cute pajamas and a new house coat before baby and it was such a nice small treat post baby. That’s great if you have grand ambitions to still be trendy right after having a baby but I will tell you now you will not feel like squeezing into anything. Your body won't be the same (at least not right away) and if you can prepare yourself for the change you’ll be leaps ahead. So go grab yourself the trendiest, coolest, instagram worthy sweatsuit girl. Here are some great transitional pieces. You can still look great and be comfortable!
3. Water Bottle
This might only be for breastfeeding/pumping mommas but from my experience the unquenchable thirst from pregnancy continues postpartum. As soon as I started breastfeeding or pumping I was so thirsty. Like stranded on a deserted island surrounded by salt water thirsty. So get yourself a sweet water bottle if you hadn't during pregnancy. One with a straw will help you drink more too.
4. Freezer meals
For some crazy reason I decided to tackle preparing 14 freezer meals while I was pregnant, thank you pinterest and my sister in-law for helping. I have to tell you though, it was the best thing. Knowing I had food and snacks all ready to go in the freezer was one less thing I had to worry about. And trust me, with my first baby in this world I was worrying about a lot of other things. So I know it sounds ambitious but it is totally worth it. Even if you can buy some of them or get someone to help you, just get it done!
5. A glass of wine and good coffee (in no particular order)
Last and probably most important, make sure you have yourself a glass of wine at night and a real good cup of coffee in the morning. You have just created and birthed life! Treat yourself and relax every morning and night with something just for you, because from here on out it won't be… about you that is. Enjoy it!
